115th Anniversary of F.W.I.O.

Sunday, February 19, 2012, Verna Cotton, Navan W.I. Tweedsmuir Curator, invited the W.I. Members, past and present, to her home for an afternoon Tea. It was to celebrate the 115th anniversary of the Federated Women's Institutes of Ontario. A delightful time spent enjoying salmon mousse, cake and tea, served by Verna's nieces, Betty Nielands and Jessie Wall. Verna now has the updated version of the Tweedsmuir Histories put together by Bonnie Sastri. It has a wealth of stories about our Navan and it's residents.
Giving back to the community

Christmas came early in December for the Navan Nursery School with the presentation of a cheque for $500 by the Navan Women's Institute. The Women's Institute was able to bestow this gift from proceeds of its 150th Anniversary Heritage Cookbook sales.
Virginia Lowe, Director/Teacher, and Kim Allaston, program assistant, indicated that the donation will be used to enhance the Nursery School's music program. "Music teaches children about movement, listening, following directions, and helps to make learning language easy and fun. We are delighted to receive this help from the Women's Institute."
The presentation was made at the Nursery School's Christmas Party on December 23rd. Also in attend-ance for the presentation was Don Murray of The New Oak Tree. Navan W.I. President Pam O'Donoughue conveyed sincere thanks to The New Oak Tree for its sponsorship of the printing costs of the cookbook. "It was this sponsorship that has allowed the W.I. to con-tinue giving back to the wonderful community of Navan. We are thrilled to be able to support the Navan Nursery School."
The Navan Nursery School will be the recipient of a second gift in January, when new blinds for the school's windows will be installed. The blinds are a gift funded by both the Navan W.I. and the Fair Board.
